Solutions I read are:
-play in windowed mode
-uninstall ffdshow filter (video codec) if u have it; uninstall/disable other silly codex and dvd play software
-closing antivirus crap
-disabling audio hardware acceleration (see below)!
-lowering video settings in game
-using one processor instead of your quad or duo. This can be done in cntrl alt delte, processes, when game has been launched. I think you can also make a shortcut and set it up before hand.
Ingame issues:
-turn of anti aliasing
Solution for SoundMAX + Asus + "Stuck at age 10" FIX Quoted from poster:
off of this website : http://vip.asus.com/forum/view.aspx?SLangu...=1&count=25
I found this link : ftp://ftp.asus.com.tw/pub/ASUS/misc/audio/ad1988/
in addition to this link : http://rapidshare.com/files/2634578/Audio_...4580_W2K_XP.rar
I downloaded the second (virus-scanned, confirmed it wasn't infected with anything) - ran \2K_XP\AsusSetup.exe - restarted.
Started game up - and sure enough, get voice acting - and a whole lot of things seem to happen that dont happen if you dont get voice acting.
( one being that they give you the PIP BOY - why we were stuck at Age 10 )
My suggestion is to either use the second link, and do what i did and just use that one,
or dig through the first link, the ftp.asus.com.tw link and find whichever driver may be better for you.
Install issues:
-use Clean Boot or remove cd emulate software such as daemon, alcohol, curerom, and burn such as nero
-getting the securom patch for fallout 3 (ONLY get this if you realy need it; http://www.securom.com/message.asp?m=emu&c=2500)
Here you have tool for removing previously installed SecuRom http://www.securom.com/support/SecuROM_Uninstaller.zip
Type in command prompt: SecuROM_Uninstaller.exe /fulluninstall
Texture issues:
Video card setting: Make sure the Support DXT texture formats is checked
if it does not work try disabling Catalyst A.I. if u use ATI - \\3D\Catalyst A.I.\ Check Disable Catalyst A.I.
I grabbed this from a site ( http://support.riverdeep.net/techtips_detail.asp?id=80) -->
Disable Audio Hardware Acceleration
Lowering/diasbling audio hardware acceleration can resolve sound and video issues in many programs. Complete the steps that follow to lower the audio hardware acceleration.
Click Start, select Settings and click Control Panel.
Double-click the Multimedia or Sounds and Multimedia icon.
In the Multimedia Properties window select the Audio tab.
Under the Playback heading, click Advanced Properties.
Click the Performance tab and record the location of the Hardware Acceleration slide bar.
Click the Hardware Acceleration slide bar and keep the mouse button pressed.
By moving the mouse, slide the indicator needle to None.
Release the mouse button.
Click Apply and click OK.
Close any open windows and launch the program that the sound issue occurred in.
NOTE: When finished with the program, return to the Advanced Properties window (following the steps above) and return the audio hardware acceleration to the setting recorded in Step 5. If lowering the audio hardware acceleration improved the performance of a program, repeat the above procedure before launching and using that program.
Some things you'll want to know...(from Gstaff)
Please be aware of the minimum requirements, exceeding the minimum is strongly recommended.
Be sure all drivers up to date, particularly video drivers, sound drivers and any windows updates, including Windows service packs!
If audio is missing be sure that audio formats, and .ogg in particular, are associated with Windows Media Player and not other audio programs like Winamp. Also try closing any music players you may have running in the background.
Nero and other burning software/hardware sometimes conflicts with SecuRom; remove uneeded software and check the update here: http://www.securom.com/message.asp?m=emu&c=2500
If Installshield hangs or gives an error during installation try renaming the Installshield folder (C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield) to something like "InstallShield Old" before installing again.
Clean out all Temp Folders. To do that, reboot the machine to release any temp files, from the Run Menu, type in %temp% and delete whatever comes up.
Digital Distribution
For information regarding digitally distributed versions of Fallout 3, please refer to the terms of the site from which you downloaded the game.
You do not need a disc to play Fallout 3 when downloaded off of any digital service.
Digital Distribution Issue with Games for Windows Live
If you have downloaded Fallout 3 from Direct2Drive, Bestbuy.com, or GameStop.com, at this time, you will not be able to access the Games for Windows LIVE service. We are aware of the issue and investigating the matter.
Post that might be very useful:
If you view your Event Viewer it tells you the reason fallout 3 was crashing. Apparently 'nvauddec.ax' was causing my error. To make a long story short all i did is uninstall 'nvdvd' (Nvidia's dvd player). We where on the right track with the codex's. After I uninstalled nvdvd it worked like a charm!!
Another post I saw, might help somehwat:
Ok, I tried tweaking some of the ini file settings and got some good results. My CPU was still spiked at 100% at times but the hitching effect stopped. I didn't test this for very long but I was getting severe hitching every 2-5 minutes before I made these changes and didn't get any hitching after the changes for 20 minutes of play. I've had similar results in Oblivion doing this stuff.
I take no responsibility for what you do with this information! If your game gets messed up with changing the settings, simply delete the ini file and the launcher will create a new one.
If you can't understand what this says to do, read up on tweaking the Oblivion Ini file. The basic understanding to have is SETTINGNAME=VALUE. Find the Setting name and change the value. Simple.
Open the FALLOUT.INI file in the "My Documents\My Games\Fallout3" folder
Don't change the Threaded settings if you do not have at least a dual core CPU.
Under [General]
bUseThreadedBlood=1 (default is 0)
bUseThreadedMorpher=1 (default is 0)
bUseThreadedAI=1 (default is 0)
bUseThreadedTempEffects=1 (default is 0)
bUseThreadedParticleSystem=1 (default is 0)
iPreloadSizeLimit=104857600 (default is 26214400)
For those with a 8800 (and other video cards that support Pixel Shader 3.0) find under [Display]
bAllow30Shaders=1 (default is 0)
Under [Audio]
bMultiThreadAudio=1 (default is 0)
iMaxImpactSoundCount=64 (default is 32)
These are the same exact settings I change in Oblivion to improve performance (Oblivion doesn't have bUseThreadedAI though)
This may help your issue or it may cause worse crashing. |
