Totem Games' Ironclads: American Civil War is a naval simulator mixing historical wargame elements with turned based tactics.
Withinthe limits of each round in consecutivesequence the player and thecomputer opponent can realize all actionspossible within five minutesof real time for each of the ships. Duringthe moment of actions of thechosen active ship all other game unitsare motionless. Time fordecision-making is not limited.
Game locations of real scales are notdividedinto cells or hexagons. The trajectory of movement of the activeshipis determined by laws of physics dirived from speed, size andtheshape. Immersion in the game world is carried out by means of twobasickey features: historical accuracy of game process and realism.
Historical Accuracy :
game locations are created on historical maps both other kept documents and descriptions; 3Dmodelsof the ships base on the drawings original archival or restoredbyexperts, photos, figures and descriptions of the ships participatedinwar; reconstruction of tacticsofconstruction, movement of the ships and conducting fight on thebasisof naval doctrines and real battles of steam armoured squadronsand theships of the middle of 19 centuries.
Realism:
use of real specifications:thesizes, contours of the hull, displacement, materials anddesign,quality and an arrangement of the reservation, speed,acceleration; calculationsof physicalinteraction of collision of the ships, floodings and aroll, a shell andthe reservation, fire and water at a fire; useofthe special ballistic calculator on the basis of the givenoriginalartillery tables for definition of accuracy, ability to punchthereservation, damage from explosion of a kernel or a shell; the morals, training, physical conditions of people, influence on effective actions of the ships; absenceofrequirements is obligatory to carry out tasks for transitiontofollowing mission, and also influence of passage of single missionsona result of game create illusion of the true war in which theplayercan lose or draw. |
