By Brian AlbertWhen you bleed in the video game, you bleed in real life. This could be the pitch for a modern horror movie, but it's also the pitch for Blood Sport, a mechanism that drains your blood as you play games -- for donation, of course.
Blood Sport: The Ultimate in Immersive Gaming is a Kickstarter project that aims to use video games to increase the amount of blood donated in Canada. It takes the electrical signal sent into any controller with rumble functionality and uses it to active the blood collection device. You can check out the Kickstarter pitch video below.
According to the project owners:
"With Blood Sport, we're raising the stakes of gaming by making it so that when you lose blood in the game, you lose it in real life as well... All we're doing is taking the electrical signal from the controller every time it rumbles and using it to turn on the blood collection system."
Blood Sport regulates how much blood is pulled from the body with each pull. The fluid is then filtered into sterile blood bags. The goal is to take Blood Sport to donation centers across Canada for "blood donation gaming events."
The project is seeking $250,000, but it was suspended by Kickstarter earlier today. IGN has reached out to the project's leaders for more information. We'll update you when we hear more.
