On March 15 is 2 Shogun: Total War in the shops. In the strategy game you can go nuts and the campagnemap lot, but obviously the necessary historical re-enactment battles, as we expect from games in the Total War franchise. In the early version of the game that we recently received, were the campaign and the multiplayer mode is not playable. For this reason we focus in this preview to a full history of the battles that the game has. Today, therefore, focus on one of the largest massacres feudal Japan has ever seen, The Battle of Sekigahara.
The Battle for the Sundered Realm, such as the historic battle is also called, took place on October 21, 1600. The battle played a crucial role in the path Tokugawa Ieyasu took off for power. The Battle of Sekigahara is seen as the beginning of the Shogunate of the commander at the time of the battle a large number of clans from the east of Japan claimed. His opponents were mainly supporters of Hideyori Toyotomi, Toyotomi Hideyoshi's son who managed to unite Japan as General. After his death, wars broke out between clans. The supporters of Hideyori would prefer that the Toyotomi clan its dominant position in Japan would recover.
The main threat to Tokugawa Ieyasu Toyotomi's was the great enemy of the generals who are loyal to the Toyotomi clan wanted to stay. It also heard General Ishida Mitsunari, who with 4,000 men, although only a small proportion had its strength, but this battle was called the commander of the troops into battle against Tokugawa. Eventually more than 160,000 soldiers were Sekigahara against each other, just Tokugawa prevailed.
Hopeless battle
The battle ended in a decisive victory for Tokugawa Ieyasu, but that was not the few thousand extra soldiers the commander at his disposal. Tokugawa who earlier had some generals loyal to the army of Ishida gotten to defect to his side. These generals, especially Hiroie Kikkawa and Kobayakawa Hideaki Tokugawa's forces were able to embed the battle and give a new direction. Instead they let the forces of Ishida in the lurch. The troops of Kikkawa Hiroie refused to attack when the battle began, and so the army had drawn up behind them could not participate in the battle. Ishida's men fought a hopeless battle.
... And in the game.
In Shogun 2: Total War you'll find on the battlefield with the troops of Ishida Mitsunari, or Lord Mitsunari, positioned on a hill. The troops of the player therefore have the advantage of their position, but the troops of Ieyasu in the majority. Our superiority must be inferred from our allies. Shimazu Toyohisa is on our side, but is a dubious ally. The role of Shimazu is well expressed, but appears in the fight in Shogun to weigh more than is really the case.
Troops dispersed
On the east side of the battlefield are the troops prepared Kobayakawa Hideaki. An ally, but judging from our history lesson from the previous page there was one that we should not go back to the stand. His forces are numerous and are led by a strong cavalry unit. Our own troops into play only under Ishida Mitsunari fall, are scattered across the field. A part is on the hill above, another part is central to a place with a large open grassy area before and two units are set further back on the side of Hideaki. As shown on this map are the forces of Ishida, Ukita Ohtani and all under the auspices of the player.
At the start of the battle shows no second unused Lord Ieyasu. Our advanced archers are directly reduced by hunting cavalry units. The Yari ashigaru, units equipped with spears, seem awkward starting positions and know the cavalry not be good to catch. A blessing in disguise, it turns out that the hunts by our cavalry and archers will go between our lines. With our own cavalry, we close the enemy troops, and the first threat is eliminated.
Betrayal
This Ieyasu launches two attacks, both in the direction of our troops on the hill and toward those on the plain. Although our Katana and Samurai Yari ashigaru now in position, the push is too powerful for us. Moreover, the archers inefficient. Lord Mitsunari fights like a lion to fight to stay the same, but we're fighting a battle that we lose this way. Our friends have also not yet interfered with the fight. It soon becomes apparent that this does not happen, Shimazu Toyohisa watch remains motionless, while his position is exactly between the two decisive battles, and there could be.
Our units in the middle is struggling, but a glimmer of hope on the hill. The positional advantage is that the fight there in our favor overturning. However, a guard in the middle quite hostile army, which is also getting reinforcement from an unexpected source. Kobayakawa Hideaki starts to move and fall from the flank. Our ally appears indeed to have overflowed. Over one thousand fresh soldiers bore into our eastern flank, which consisted of little more anyway. Only hope rests on the two units that were behind the lines, but they are interrupted by the General Hideaki unit, having little trouble with our infantry.
Massacre
When the remains of our western flank on the grassy plain report, the fight is already lost. The roughly four hundred remaining soldiers are overrun by the mix of Ieyagu and Hideaki soldiers. Soon choose our last fighters run away, or they are killed. The Battle of Sekigahara expire as actually happened, and Ieyagu is the way to be Shogun ...
Preliminary result
Looking back on this session, we see clearly the weaknesses in our tactical execution necessary. So we picked the cavalry Ieyagu too late and we had a much earlier stage, troops of the eastern flank in position to bring Hideaki combat. By keeping him away longer in Ieyagu we would have just enough time to deal with Ieyagu, perhaps the moral of Hideaki would have broken. The earlier merger of our western and central front we had a possible solution. It is certain in any case that we have enough reasons to try again ...
The Historical Battle mode, where we are today an example of gifts, of course, only one of the game modes that Shogun 2: Total War has. The game is essentially the combination of strategy and tactics in the overall campagnemap real-time battles. New this year is the ability to play an online campaign, where multiple players on the same campagnemap active. Also about you in the review, which will appear around the release date, read more.
