生化危机系列外传性质作品，描写一群普通人逃离浣熊市的恐怖经历。《生化危机：爆发1》除了单机游戏外还支持在线联机游戏，首次实现了《生化危机》的对人同乐。　
游戏的开端　　
9月某日，美国中西部的浣熊市（Raccoon City），突然发生了一宗前所未见的生化危机（BIOHAZARD）事件，整个城市一下子变成了恐怖血腥的炼狱。到处都听得见恐怖的呻吟，街道上被病毒感染的人们在四处游荡，然而他们已经变成了没有灵魂的怪物。没有被病毒感染的人大多数都躲了起来，不敢外出一步，从而等待着死神的降临。不过街上还存在着一些未失去光明，“我们一定要逃离这里！”他们下定决心要挑战困难。但他们还不知道事实的真相，－－前路将会是匪夷所思，一场灾难大逃亡即将展开…………
游戏设定为五关，且每一个关卡都会有一个BOSS，只有打败了关卡的BOSS才能到达下一关，这些BOSS都是生化危机系列里经常出现的怪物。但在《生化危机爆发》里这些常见的怪物设定的都令人毛骨悚然，而且过场动画更是生动至极。　　在武器设定方面，玩家在开始的时候并不是哪个主角上来就有枪使用，不过此作的武器的种类非常的多，包括在《生化危机》系列里常用的武器之外，还有很多种容易上手的武器，比如说“铁棒”“木棒”“拖把”等等，还可以把两种或多种武器组合起来使用，来增加武器的攻击力度，所以说《生化危机爆发》从任何方面来看都是一款不错的游戏。
