Yesterday on the blogs we revealed all of the licensed leagues and clubs in Football Manager 2010, bar one.
Today it’s my pleasure to be able to reveal to you the final licensed club.
First though, a bit of a story on how it came about.
Earlier this year, after much hassling, I was persuaded to go on my first proper holiday in a very long time (about 10 years!). Holidays are not something that I’m very good at, so struck a deal involving a “work allowed per day” quota, bought some shorts, and got on a plane to go to Cyprus for a week.
Sun, sea, sand, good food and cocktails followed. I was banned from FM for a week (although I did manage a few sneaky FML matches when people weren’t looking), read some books, and attempted to not think about “work” at all, which I failed on dismally.
With two days of the holiday to go, a very familiar face turned up to the same resort. A footballing hero of mine, in fact. I was banned from talking to him, in case I ended up talking about football and FM.
The next morning, I saw him again in the restaurant at breakfast time, accidentally timing my going up to get food from the buffet trip so that the person who had banned me from talking to him couldn’t see.
“Mr.Hoddle”, I said. “I just wanted to thank you for all the years of entertainment you gave to me as a player, and congratulations on your achievements so far with your academy. It’s great to see someone trying to bring the next generation of players through. My name is Miles, and I’m part of the team behind the Football Manager game.”
He looked up and said “my son loves your game”. This was enough for me, as a big smile came across my face. “And my commercial director at the academy, Neil Duncanson, was talking about the game just the other week, and how great it would be for the academy to be in the game. You should drop him a line.”
So a line was dropped, and with Neil and Glenn’s help, I am very proud to announce that the Glenn Hoddle Academy are an officially licensed club in Football Manager 2010.
For those who don’t know about the Glenn Hoddle Academy, it’s a professional football development centre, based in Jerez, Southern Spain.
The GHA is Glenn’s own vision. It is the first independent, professional football academy, offering an alternative to the professional club system.
The primary goal of the GHA is to offer a genuine route back into professional football for some of the youngsters discarded by the professional system. Each year football clubs across Europe release hundreds of talented young players. Glenn is absolutely convinced that the decision on their future is made too early and that many, given more time, with the right attitude, in the right surroundings, would develop into valued professional players.
In only the Academy's first year, six players have graduated to professional clubs in England, Spain and Cyprus, vindicating Glenn's vision.
In game, if you playing as an English or Spanish club, you will get a friendly against the Glenn Hoddle Academy each pre-season. Depending on your clubs level, this could be a first team, reserve team or youth team friendly, and gives you a great chance to look at the players in action. All of the players are available to buy, and the academy will take on new players each Summer after players have been released by their clubs.
You can, of course, also arrange a friendly against the Academy at any time in the season, to have a look at how their players have progressed, to see how yours have progressed, or for any other reason you may have!
So what does Glenn have to say about all this?
"To have the Glenn Hoddle Academy Club in Football Manager 2010 is fantastic. We have been working hard with the team at Football Manager to make this happen and we are delighted to be the first professional football development centre in the world to become a part of the ever expanding game.
"Our players are all talented professionals, released initially from senior clubs across Europe. They spend time developing their skills in Spain and they play regular fixtures against senior European opposition, including Atletico Madrid, Chelsea, Manchester City and Real Madrid, on a regular basis. To have our squad included in Football Manager 2010 alongside their peers in the professional game, as part of this season's new features, will I am sure add a new dimension for the game."

What do you think about the game (in comparison to FM09)?
Overall, I would say that this year's game is a vast improvement over FM09. On it's release, FM09 was far from the game that is has now become as FM10. The new GUI makes navigating around the game easier and smoother then before, meaning that lengthy sessions in front of this year's Football Manager will be a breeze. The updated 3D match view and underlying Match Engine are also vastly improved over last year's offering. Matches seem to flow much more realistically and the chances of "incredible" score lines and "freak" goals are dramatically reduced.
What's your favourite new feature? My favourite new feature, simple though may seem, would be the Backroom Advice option. The ability to see what your coaches and scouts actually think about your current squad, it's tactics and potential signings, all together on one screen with advice with what to do about them all in the future is not only a great tool to help ease newcomers into the game, but could well end up being a veteran FMer's very good friend as well.
How has the beta process been this year? Compared to previous testing I have done (For the 9.3.0 patch) this beta process has been much more fluid and Also, the ease with which the external beta testers can contact prominent member's of the SI team and help them to improve the game is extraordinary. Many members of the external testing team have had input into this year's game and it shows the humility of the SI staff to take on board what fans of the game say about it and try their hardest to improve the game according to what the "man on the street" thinks of their game

It's too much better that fm09 the new GUI, the realism of the 3d, the news, everything is much better, this remember me the big jump from cm4 to cm0304, its much complete!! the best game of all the series!!
What's your favourite new feature?
The tactic creator, it's most easy, and take less time also, talking with my team employees, i love that, the see a lot of stuff that i forgot to see :P
How has the beta process been this year?
The best of all the time!! A lot of people discussing making reviews of the bugs, looking for the best performance of the game! This will be the best testing footall manager game ever - and I'm glad to be part of it!!Being a tester of football manager open me the doors so i can work as a tester/Sqa here in Mexico Thanks SI Games :D

What do you think about the game (in comparison to FM09)?
FM10 is a terrific game, and in my opinion a classic - the best in the series to date. I struggled to get into FM08 and FM09 as much as previous editions, but have been utterly captivated by FM10. The game feels solid, and the promised polish has really made a big impact. Some will worry, in fact, that it's just a polished version of FM09 - fear not, because FM10 is also packed with new features and a thousand new little touches that have really dragged me back into the fold.
What's your favourite new feature? Without question, it has to be the competition editor for me. For a first attempt, it's very polished and powerful, and allows the user to implement and share leagues which have a very professional finish despite being so simple to produce. It's been a joy to test and use; I've loved seeing my creations up and running. It's really transformed the game for me.
How has the beta process been this year? For beta testing, it has been very smooth. For the vast majority of the time, the game has looked in very good shape and has been very stable. The process itself has felt very professional, and it is clear that the expansion of the offsite Dream Team has been of massive benefit to SI. We've done our bit to try and break things, and the guys at SI have been very quick at turning round fixes for the issues we've raised. I can't see how it could have been any better!
