一般带hell的都不是好话。what's the hell在中文里应该翻译成“到底他妈的怎么了？”是不礼貌的。
刚刚百度了一下。。。
What the hell is going on? 到底发生了什么?(这究竟他妈怎么回事?)

1.相当于俚语，语气词，加强说话的力度！

2.本意很显然大家都知道是“地狱”的意思！

3.What the hell is going on ? 到底发生了什么?(这究竟他妈怎么回事?)
What the hell ?
What the hell is wrong with you ?
What the hell was I thinking?
What the hell are you doing? 你到底搞什么？
What the hell are you talking about?

好比for god's sake和for fuck's sake一样，前者只是俚语，后者才是粗口

不过话说回来，英文里的粗话界定有时候很模糊
crap、dammit算粗口
jackass、sob却又人人都说
搞不懂啊搞不懂
